Gather these supplies:
- Rustic gardening twine
- A large crochet hook (I used a 6mm hook)
- Scissors
- A selection of items to fill the nest. I’ve used moss, dried flowers and pine-cones. You could also add tiny feathers, twigs and leaves.
- Glue gun (optional)
- Sweet treats to tuck inside the nest!

I’m using UK crochet terminology

Step 1
Make a slip knot and slide your hook into the loop.

Step 2
Make 5 chain stitches.

Step 3
Join the chain stitches into a ring by making a slip stitch into the first chain stitch.

Step 4
Make 3 chain stitches (this counts as a treble stitch).

Step 5
Make 1 treble into the first chain stitch in the round. Make 2 trebles in the next chain stitch. Repeat all around to end up with 10 trebles (including the first 3 chain stitches that you made). Join the round with a slip stitch into the top chain stitch from the start of the previous round.

Step 6
Make 3 chain stitches (this counts as a treble stitch).

Step 7
Make 1 treble into the first stitch from the previous round. Make 2 trebles in the next stitch. Repeat all around to end up with 20 trebles (including the first 3 chain stitches that you made). Join the round with a slip stitch into the top chain stitch from the start of the previous round.

Step 8
Make 3 chain stitches (this counts as a treble stitch). Make 1 treble into the first stitch from the previous round. Make 1 treble in the next stitch. *Make 2 trebles in the next stitch, and 1 in the next.* Repeat from * to ** to end up with 30 trebles (including the first 3 chain stitches that you made). Join the round with a slip stitch into the top chain stitch from the start of the previous round. Your nest is complete!

You can now shape the nest to make it more cup-like. Add some moss, and a selection of dried flowers, leaves etc. You can poke stems through the holes in the nest. Optionally, hold everything in place with a little glue!
