Make a crochet heart & flowers garland

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and love it or loathe it, we think it's an excellent excuse to get crafty! This year, why not celebrate the day by making this crochet heart and flower garland - its bright colours will look lovely on your wall, and bring a touch of springtime cheer all year round.

If you’re new to crochet, you might find it helpful to read our beginner’s guide to crochet. It has step-by-step guides to the crochet stitches you’ll be using in this project, which you could practise before you begin.

What you'll need

Pink yarn
Green yarn

How to make the hearts

Make a magic ring and 2 chain two stitches (see pic 1).

Crochet heart & flower garland step 1

Round 1: 3 treble trebles, 4 double trebles, 1 treble treble, 4 double trebles, 3 treble trebles all into the magic ring. Pull the magic ring almost closed, leaving a small gap in the middle.  Chain 2, slip stitch into the remaining hole in the magic ring. Pull the magic ring tightly closed. A heart shape will magically form!

Don’t worry if the magic ring loosens as you work; you’ll be able to tighten and secure this when you finish (see pic 2).

Note:

The hearts will look even better if you block them. Pin to a towel on the carpet, spray lightly with water or spray starch and leave to dry completely.

How to connect your hearts and flowers

Make a simple chain. Connect each heart and flower at even intervals along the chain by simply picking up the loops and incorporating them into the chain as you go (see pic 5).
