Instructions
Step 1: Trace the glasses case pattern on Marl Turquoise felt and the flannel or cotton fabric (be sure to revise the pattern) and cut out.
Step 2 : Trace the oak leaf pattern on felt or freezer paper (press the freezer paper to the felt), and cut out.
Step 3: Fold over the side of the glass case as shown and pin 2 oak leaves in place.
Step 4: Fold over the top flap and pin the oak leaf in place.
Step 5: Open the glasses case and felt Bode wool on the bottom edge as shown, to create grass.
Step 6: Using felt fabric, trace the top of the acorn on Sable felt and the bottom of the acorn on Marl Fawn felt or freezer paper (press the freezer paper to the felt), and cut out.
Step 7: Place the acorn so it is over lapping the grass and pin in place.
Step 8: Embroider the oak leaves by using a whip stitch on the outer edge of the case, a stem stitch in the centre of the leaves, and a back stitch for the vanes.
Note: If you are new to embroidery, you can purchase one of our Beginner's Guide to Embroidery PDF booklets here!
Step 9: Embroider the acorn with a whip stitch. Leave a small opening, lightly stuff with any left-over wool and stitch it closed.
Step 10: Embroider stitches on the acorn cap and stitch a stem on top. Embroider some stems onto the leaves and add a few French knots onto the grass to create flowers.
Note: I used fusible webbing to attach the lining to the glasses case. If you don't have fusible webbing available, you can pin the lining in place and secure it with some base stitches.
Step 11: Fold and press the edge and the top flap to create a crease.
Step 12: Embroider a Blanket Stitch around the case.
Note: I opened the case and used a blanket stitch along the top edge before sewing the rest of the case. When I reached the oak leaves on the outer edges, I switched to a whip stitch.
This is a bit tricky; but if you are patient, you can make this button hole.
Step 13: Start by cutting a slit next to the centre vein on the oak leaf flap. Then, carefully sew around the hole using a whip or blanket stitch
Step 14: Stitch the button in place, ensuring it aligns perfectly with the buttonhole.
Now your Autumn Glasses Case is ready to read a book or craft!
Happy Crafting,
