First time felter!

I bought this kit to make for a dear friend whose cottage in the Hebrides looks just like this. I hadn't done any felting before so was a bit concerned it was quite an ambitious start but I absolutely loved the whole process. I watched a couple of videos about technique and laid out all my supplies; I did find it useful to label the hanks of wool with their different names as the colours are not necessarily what you'd expect by name alone. I already had a felting mat and used that rather than the one supplied with the kit, but everything you need is in the box so that wouldn't have been a problem.
I found the written instructions plus photos at every stage really useful and clear to follow. It was a delight to watch the seaside bothy taking shape and I know I'll be back for more 'painting with wool' before long! I used a lot of wool but still ended up with generous amounts left over.

My advice to a new felter would be to give yourself plenty of time and table space, properly read the instructions as you go along and just resolve to really enjoy the making process! You don't have to make every detail exactly the same as shown on the box for it to look very special.

Seashore bothy

I had no experience of needle felting. I found the instructions easy to follow and am really pleased with the result. It took me about two hours to complete. There was plenty of wool left over for other projects. This is a craft which requires concentration and the materials are not cheap, but I enjoyed it and will do more.

Lovely gift

Unable to review Crafty Cottages kit personally as was a gift but my Mum loved it - I would definitely purchase a similar kit again
